Although the ABNF syntax is convenient for authoring grammars, it is rarely natively supported by speech recognition engines. For this reason, ABNF Grammars can be easily exported (converted) to other formats. The currently supported formats are the W3C's SRGS XML format (often referred to as GrXML) and Nuance's GSL (a proprietary format).

The export tools are accessed through the ABNF editor's contextual menu:

Note: the comments in the ABNF grammar are not preserved during the conversion to the XML form or to GSL.
